Habe mich gestern fuer meine Graduation Feier angemeldet. Ein Satz auf der Online-Anmeldung ist mir speziell aufgefallen:

Wieso sollte jemand das nicht wollen? Religion oder so? Manche Leute machen sich das Leben unnoetig schwer …

Ich konnte auch meinen Namen phonetisch angeben, so dass er richtig ausgesprochen wird! …

Halloween ist am 31. Oktober. Ein voelliger Quatsch, jedoch mit einer Amerikanerin im Haus darf man das nicht laut sagen. Wie auch immer, heute Abend gehen wir in die neue Wohnung von Freunden (”auf” der Isle of Dogs) um zu halloweenern.

Meine Master Abschlusszeremonie findet am 11 Dezember statt. In England ist das eine ganz schoen kitschige Angelegenheit.. man muss eine Gown und ein Mortarboard (der quadratische Hut) mieten oder kaufen und wird dann mit allen Angehörigen und alleine fotografiert etc. Man kann auch Bilderrahmen kaufen, um diese festlichen Fotos einzurahmen. Schlussendlich stellt man diese Bilder dann auf den Cheminee-Sims…

Yes, our proposal with title “Model Checking and Program Analysis for Quantifying Interference” has been funded by EPSRC!!

After lots of posts about it, work on it, and waiting for it we got the answer this afternoon. What does that mean for me? I’m not forced to be an unpaid teaching assistant anymore, our project is funded by an important organisation, my phd is scheduled to be 3 instead of 4 years and I’ll get a free macbook

Currently, I’m spending my days reloading EPSRC’s Grant proposal checker to see whether I received the new grant.

Am Freitag war ich an einem ….. Schweizer Expat (ex patria nehme ich an) Treffen. Heh. Wer mich kennt wird sich wundern was mich an so ein Anlass treibt. Der Schweizer Arbeitskollege hier im Department hat mich eingeladen und ich konnte nicht nein sagen. Auf jeden Fall war der Anlass sehr gut und unterhaltend und dauerte bis viel zu weit in die Nacht. Wir waren in der (sehr zu empfehlenden) Green & Red Bar, eine gemuetliche, mexikanische Bar/Restaurant an der Bethnal Green Road. Somit konnte ich wieder einmal mein Schweizerdeutsch ueben. Apropos, ich sprach ungefaehr fuer 10 Minuten mit einer franzoesisch-sprechenden Schweizerin als sie total ueberrascht feststellte, dass ich ebenfalls ein Schweizer sei. Jedoch glaube ich, dass das nicht an meinem Englisch sondern eher an ihrem Tequila-Konsum lag.

I don’t know whether you know (actually I know that you don’t know) that some friends and I have a cafepress store with weird tshirt designs on it. Lately, one of the crazy finish guys created a “Ray Charles” design where Ray is wearing a tinfoil hat, beside him there’s an alien head and the caption goes “Cosmic Ray Charles Experience” — don’t ask.

Yesterday, cafepress removed our design from our store for unknown reasons. Later on, we received a mail from them saying that we violated the TOS …

Btw: one girl from New Jersey bought a cosmic ray charles shirt. Which means she is the only owner on the planet of this shirt!

Another, no less controversy, nice shirt from out shop is this one with a machine gun rendered in 0 and 1 bits:

But I wouldn’t dare to walk around in this shirt in London. Not really because the shirt is so bad but because UK police is so nuts.

These signs are quite common. I tried climbing the wall and there is no difference to non-anti-climb-painted walls. Very weird.

Halal Sweets. Yes, they contain gelatine from Halal-style butchered cows. They taste a bit softer and clingier than normal sweets.

Heute musste ich am PhD Induction afternoon teilnehmen. Sämtliche neue phd Studenten von der Universität wurden begrüsst mit den üblichen Reden, Vorstelungen der Uni, Apero, etc etc. Erstaunlicherweise hatte es viele Frauen darunter, welche ein EE (electrical engineering) phd machen.. nice.

Diese Woche kam ich noch zu keiner Sekunde eigentlicher research Arbeit, was eigentlich auch nicht weiter schlimm ist. Letzten Freitag haben wir unser Paper an dieses Symposium eingereicht; im Dezember erfahren wir ob wir angenommen wurden oder nicht.

MORGEN ist EPSRC Panel Sitzung, welche über mein weiteres Funding enscheidet!! Innerhalb der nächsten Woche erfahre ich das Resultat….
