Dried fish obsession 1:

Credit Crunch cereals at Spitalfields:

Very nice bookshop in Hoxton with an interesting name:

Dried fish 2. My housemate eating them from a bowl. The fish have tiny little things inside. Cute.

The pub on my street:

Eiertuetschis explained to an English person
Well, last night I made the mistake and tried to explain the tradition of Eiertuetschis to an English friend. Let’s say it did not match his kind of humour. His response was sarcastically “well, your weekend must have gone by very quickly”.
That was kind of funny
Spitz uf Gupf, and Gupf uf Spitz are just elements which are very hard to bring across lively.
Easter and Wankers

So I spent the Easter weekend at home. Was good but as usual way too short. Now back in London and we’re very busy. Our paper has been rejected from the last conference (frankly, we aimed too high there and we (or I) knew it) so we’re trying to resubmit and rewrite it quickly.
Still, it’s good to be back in London. Sometimes it seems that the local Bangladeshi (pre?) teenagers hold competitions in who can shout “wanker” (or sometimes “motherfucker”) the loudest through the street. Then I know I’m back in town.
Anyway, speaking of wankers, the army is recruiting people with a seemingly widespread campaign .. probably a good time to join the army during the crisis. Here is their current ad, on telephone booths:

If they only added a Wanker-tickbox..
Wankers to the third: I bought food in my favorite shop to buy food, cafe1001. For some reason, in a moment of clarity, feeling the silence before the storm, I snapped a picture of it:

I’m not quite sure if it was the chicken, or the beans, or the onions .. but it certainly unleashed hell in my stomach
Easter

This Thursday, I’m going back to Basel for a quick Easter holiday! Looking forward to that .. even though there’s probably quite a bit of work to do.
The picture above shows some pretty cool shape I found in my office, built out of train tickets. My best guess would be that it’s a nonconvex cubicuboctahedron .. or possibly something else.
London Streetview
Finally, Google added Streetview to the map of London! This is pretty exciting and useful. If you have to go somewhere you can quickly check out the area or the house you are going to. Also, you can show people where you live … unless Google forgot to map your street! Which is the case for me. My whole area is mapped, except the street I live on. They must have missed the entry or something .. strange!
Anyway, here’s the streetview link to Brick Lane: click here
Workshop II

We had our workshop on Monday. It turned out to be quite a success with lots of good people attending. I met some people working on our field which was quite important.
If I didn’t loose my mini-usb cable I would upload some photos of Goodenough College .. but I don’t so I can’t!
I’ll make up for it later and add them.
If anyone is interested, my slides are available here
